What to eat?

STRICT CARNIVORE IS VERY SIMPLE – MEAT, WATER, AND SALT – period!

A basic carnivore diet typically revolves around animal products exclusively, with a focus on meat. Here’s a simple, typical daily meal plan:

Breakfast

  • Steak and Eggs: A classic combination of a cooked steak (such as ribeye or sirloin) and eggs, either scrambled, fried, or boiled.

Lunch

  • Ground Beef Patty: A simple beef patty, seasoned with salt. Optionally topped with a slice of cheese if dairy is included in the diet.
  • Bone Broth: As a drink to supplement the meal, providing hydration and nutrients.

Dinner

  • Roasted Chicken: A portion of roasted chicken, either breast, thigh, or drumsticks.
  • Fish: Options like salmon or mackerel, which are high in Omega-3 fatty acids.

Snacks (If Needed)

  • Pork Rinds: For a crunchy snack, as they are purely animal-based.
  • Cheese: Small portions of cheese, such as cheddar or gouda, if dairy is included in the diet.

Beverages

  • Water: The primary beverage choice.
  • Black Coffee or Tea: If desired, as they are zero-calorie and do not contain carbohydrates or sugar.

Notes

  • Seasoning: Typically limited to salt, as most other seasonings are plant-based.
  • Organ Meats: Occasionally included for nutrient variety, such as liver or heart.
  • Fat Intake: Adjusted according to individual energy needs, with options like butter (if including dairy) or animal fats.

Author’s note: Here is what I have done for several months:

BREAKFAST: I eat around 11am after a workout.

  • 4-5 eggs
  • 1/2 – 1lb bacon, sausage, steak, or ground beef
  • Sometimes a bit of cheese, usually Feta

LUNCH: I have never been hungry for lunch. Eat breakfast until it no longer tastes good and you are full.

DININER: I eat dinner around 6pm and have been alternating between a steak night (Ribeye, Chuck, NY Strip) or 1lb of fatty ground beef. After a few months of this, I like the ground beef the best. Usually in the form of a burger that I top with a slice of cheese and/or an egg at times. Some days sloppy joe style with some cheese mixed in.

DRINKS: I drink water, and although loved Tim Horton’s black coffee I realized it was one of the main causes of my bathroom runs. It is a laxative and caffeine is a neurotoxin. I did find some extremely awesome-tasting 1 net carb hot chocolate in the past week that is awesome. I have no noticeable side effects and during a Michigan winter, it is welcome!

SEASONINGS: Besides salt, I do use Lawry’s as well as garlic salt and sometimes black pepper.

DESSERTS: I pretty much lived on sugar for decades…seriously addicted to it. I needed desserts with every dinner. After a month of carnivore, I decided to add a Jello “fluff” to dinner meals a couple of times a week. Jello is primarily animal bone and connective tissue and it turns out that when you mix it with some homemade whipped cream and a little cream cheese and top it with some more canned whipped creme – it is very satisfying. Sometimes I do skip the jello and replace it with a couple of teaspoons of instant coffee — emmm!
